REI-GEN (Ganoderma lucidum, Reishi) Mycelial Biomass Powder
Description:
Ganoderma lucidum is known as "reishi" in Japan. Reishi is a polypore which grows on hard wood. Reishi has been used in Japanese folk medicine for over 4,000 years. The reishi fruiting body is reddish-orange with definitive stalks which are usually attached to the caps from the side. Under carbon-dioxide rich environment, reishi will grow in the "deer antler" shape with multi-branched stalks and no caps. The vegetative stage of the mushroom is the mycelial stage in the form of hyphae- long threads of cells, growing on fallen logs. Fungi spend most of their life cycles in the mycelial stage. The mushroom mycelia excrete digestive enzymes to digest nutrients and fend off competition and other pathogens in their environment. Our specially selected Reishi mushroom isolate is cultured aseptically on certified organic whole grain brown rice under strict environmental control. At the peak of the growth cycle, the mycelial biomass contains fully myceliated brown rice substrate, mushroom primorida, and various metabolites. The mycelial biomass is harvested and carefully dried at low temperatures and then ground into powder.
Biochemistry
Reishi mycelium is rich in carbohydrates, protein, and vitamins. Active compounds in Reishi include glycoprotein, enzymes, polysaccharides and other metabolites which can stimulate immune response in a host.
Physiology/Pharmacology
Compounds in Reishi are classified as immune-potentiators which augment the intrinsic host defense mechanisms against disease in the human body. Reishi is able to augment the host's response through maturation, differentiation and proliferation of lymphoid cells and other physiologically important cells active in most host defense mechanisms. Substances in Reishi can induce the physiologically active components in the human body such as lympho-cytokines, hormones and neurotransmitters to normal or above normal level. Reishi can act to restore homeostasis in an immune-suppressed host. Studies have indicated that Reishi is able to induce potent antimicrobial activity in mice. In vitro studies point to the stimulative effects in monocytes, macrophages, and cytokines production. Anti-viral and anti-oxidant effects are other in vitro effects observed from the study of Reishi.
